Well-defined strategy for development of adsorbent using metal organic frameworks (MOF) template for high performance removal of hexavalent chromium
A well-defined strategy for development of adsorbent with high performance using metal organic framework (MOF) as template is proposed. Porous (Fe0.72Fe2.28)-Fe-(0) C-(II) was further synthesized in accordance with the proposed strategy. The characteristics of (Fe0.72Fe2.28C)-Fe-(0)-C-(II) was evidenced by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electronic microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and nitrogen adsorption/desorption analysis, which exhibited intriguing morphological structure and physicochemical properties. The unique ferromagnetic nature (90.7 emu g(-1)) confirmed its separability from aqueous solution. The obtained (Fe0.72Fe2.28C)-Fe-(0)-C-(II) was further applied for hexavalent chromium removal and exhibited desirable removal capability with a maximum capacity of 354.6 mg g(-1). The mechanism of hexavalent chromium removal on (Fe0.72Fe2.28C)-Fe-(0)-C-(II) was investigated, as well as its effect on pH, contact time, temperature, and water matrices. Findings from this study shed light on the rational design of adsorbent with high performance and expended the application of metal organic frameworks.
