Four-transition 0-1 functions for reflectance spectra
It is known that a reflectance spectrum for an optimal colour takes on the value 0 or 1 at every wavelength, with at most two transitions between those values. This article shows that any non-optimal colour can be produced by a reflectance spectrum that takes on the value 0 or 1 at every wavelength, with at most four transitions. While the two-transition optimal spectrum is unique, the four-transition non-optimal spectrum is not unique.
