Analysis of droplet formation in nozzles used in granulation processes
Nozzles with holes 1-3.5 mm and flat or conical tips were used for dosing water to a bulk material. The outflow of water from the nozzles was recorded by using a camera and then used to est. drop sizes. For the Reynolds no. 500, the water stream flow changed into drip outflow. The use of nozzles with larger diams. of holes as well as redn. of water flow velocity resulted in an increase of the drop diam. up to 2-6 mm and 3.5-6.5 mm for nozzles with a conical and flat tips, resp. For nozzles with flat tips, drops with diams. 3.5-6 mm and 1-2 mm were alternately formed. The size of smaller drops was independent on the water flow velocity and slightly changed with the change in the diam. of the nozzle hole.
