Hydrogen production by the reaction of Al-based metals with water vapor
As the most abundant metal on the earth, aluminum is one of alternative clean fuels. This work presents experimental studies on the reaction process characteristics in a specially designed reactor using Al-based metals as fuel. The experiments of different samples with steam in a thermogravimetric analyzer and special designed reactor indicated that Al-Li alloy had a better reactivity than Al-Mg-Li. The efficiency was 87.83% and H-2 yield reached 1155.03 ml/g for Al-Li alloy. It is feasible to use Al-Li alloy as fuel to provide H-2 and heat.
