Deactivation of Algae by Plasma Generated in Seawater Flow
Diatoms in seawater, Chaetoceros gracilis and Chaetoceros calcitrans, were successfully deactivated by plasma generated in the seawater flow. Not only in situ formed oxidants such as hydrogen peroxide and free residual chlorine, but also the direct effects of the plasma such as UV illumination and collisions with high-energy particles seemed to contribute to the deactivation of the algae.
