Self-Healing Epoxy Coatings Based on Nanocontainers for Corrosion Protection of Mild Steel
This work presents a new type of self-healing coating based on nanocontainers. Layer-by-Layer deposition was employed to produce these nanocontainers and develop a final structure of SiO2/chitosan/alginate/polyaspartic acid/alginate/polyaspartic acid. Zeta potential measurements indicate the charging of nanoparticles coated with the adsorbed polyelectrolyte or inhibitor layer upon each added layer. The self-healing abilities of the prepared coatings are examined with electrochemical methods. Scanning vibrating electrode technique suggests that these self-healing coatings exhibit an excellent corrosion performance. (C) 2017 The Electrochemical Society. All rights reserved.
