Decomposition of VOCs and odorous compounds by radiolysis: A critical review
Various technologies have been developed to control air pollutants. However, these methods have problems such as a high pressure drop, short lifespan, large site, economics and formation of secondary pollutants. Recently, advanced oxidation processes have been studied to overcome these problems. Electron beam (EB) technology is one of the most promising advanced technologies due to its special characteristics. In the present paper, we introduce the research and application of EB technology to treat volatile organic and odorous compounds. The removal efficiency of these compounds by EB processing is discussed regarding diverse Conditions, such as differences in initial concentrations, background gases, absorbed doses, and relative humidity. Furthermore, the characteristics and performance of new EB hybrid technologies designed to solve the problems that occur with EB-only systems are reviewed. Finally, the limitations and potential of EB technology for air pollution treatment are also discussed. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
