Radical Molecule Interactions as Observed in Time-Resolved Resonance Raman Spectral Band Shapes
Resonance Raman spectra of two transient neutral radicals, the benzosemiquinone radical and the pyrazinyl radical, have been measured in 2-propanol solutions. The bandwidths of the Raman spectra of these radicals are found to be much larger than those of the parent molecules. The broad feature of the Raman bands is discussed in terms of the strong intermolecular interaction between the radicals and the surrounding solvent/solute molecules.
