Integrated model for the prediction of cleaning profiles inside an automatic dishwasher
Automatic dishwashers (ADW) are commonly used in domestic environments, delivering a great environmental benefit as they consume significantly less water (similar to 75%) and energy (similar to 25%) when compared to typical hand wash operations. Design of ADW equipment and cleaning products is typically empirical. Understanding design challenges is crucial to develop more efficient and environmentally friendly systems. In this work, we seek to develop an integrated model to predict performance. Kinetics of soil removal for different chemistries are evaluated using a Fluid Dynamic Gauge. The trajectories of the various water jets are estimated via a mathematical model based on ADW geometry. Then, the individual models are combined to generate simulated data that is compared with experiments. The integrated model is successfully predicting cleaning at typical and high-removal conditions (standard and high pH and enzyme levels) and over predicting cleaning at low-removal conditions (low pH and low enzyme level).
