The geometry of octahedrally symmetric C-48 has been optimized using a local density functional. All the atoms are equivalent by symmetry, so the molecule has a unique radius. This radius, the vertical ionization potentials, and electron affinity of C-48 are compared to the corresponding values for C-60.
