Numerical Studies of Hydrodynamic Dispersion in Packed Beds of Uniform Porous Microparticles
For packed beds of spherical porous microparticles, the relation between their morphology and hydrodynamic dispersion is studied in the present paper. The approach is based on the pore scale resolving numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations using the finite-volume method. Quantities describing the mean field are obtained from a local volume averaging procedure. The results demonstrate that introducing additional voids into the porous media leads to a significant increase of the hydrodynamic dispersion.
