Distributed feedback waveguide laser of organic nano-compound material
The laser action was firstly demonstrated using 1-cyano-trans-1,2-bis-(4'-methyl-biphenyl)ethylene (CN-MBE), that enhances its fluorescence from organic nanoparticle. The CN-MBE is not fluorescent and has enhanced fluorescence in aggregated nanoparticle state. CN-MBE doped PMMA film showed fluorescence over 400 similar to 600nm and spectral narrowed emission at 430nm under pumping with a nanosecond pulsed laser at wavelength of 355 nm. CN-MBE: PMMA DFB laser waveguides were successfully fabricated, and lasing wavelength was over 430 to 490 nm. CN-MBE: PMMA DFB lasers showed laser threshold of 73 mu J/cm(2) at the waveguide size of 15 mu m x 100 mu m x 5 mu m. The output spectra had bandwidth as narrow as 60pm FWHM, and suppressed fluorescence background of less than 0.5%. The maximum peak power and average power were estimated to be 5W and 0.35 mu W, respectively. The durability was as long as 1.7 x 10(4) shots/waveguide.
