Dispersion Characteristics of Orgarnic/inorganic Nanocomposites Prepared with Polymers Having Telechelic and Side Functional Groups
Organic/inorganic hybrid composites were prepared by sol-gel reaction for the mixture of triethoxysilane-group terminated telechelic polymer and tetraethoxysilane(TEOS). Formation of coupling bonds played a deciding role in determining the dispersion characteristics of these hybrid composites. The hybrid composite showed the reduced optical transparency due to the crystallization of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) units as the chain length of PEG was increased.
Organic/inorganic hybrid composites were prepared by sol-gel reaction for the mixture of methacrylate polymers having side carbonyl groups and TEOS. Methacrylate polymer/silica hybrid composites showed enhanced fine dispersion due to the favorable intermolecular hydrogen bonding interaction. However, the hybrid composites showed macro dispersion characteristics despite of considerable amount of hydrogen bonding as the contents of the carbonyl groups were decreased.
