Adsorption and separation of propane and propylene by Cuban natural volcanic glass
As a previous study for higher applications, a natural volcanic glass of technological Type I material from Cuba (VVN) was used as adsorbent to separate propane and propylene under flow conditions at a temperature range of 328-343 K by using inverse gas chromatography (IGC). From chromatographic data, the involved differential adsorption heats and the corresponding separation coefficient were estimated. The experimental results showed the capacity of VVN material in the adsorption and separation of light hydrocarbon mixtures at relatively low temperatures due to the weak interaction of these molecules with the adsorbent surface, and therefore the observed low heat adsorption values. This material also presented high stability, since after 150 adsorption/desorption cycles, its properties were maintained. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
