Gas convection in fuel cells: An overlooked factor
Gas transport in the porous electrode plays a crucial role in the performance of fuel cells. Inthis work, gas convection caused by temperature gradient, typically ignored in the analysis of gastransport in fuel cells, has been evaluated quantitatively. The correlation of gas convection with gas pressure and electrode thickness is investigated systematically. In addition, limiting current density loss caused by temperature gradient and the associated concentration polarization (CP) are evaluated analytically. Our work facilitates a comprehensive understanding of gas transport in electrodes and the improvement in the electrochemical performances of fuel cells. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
