The porous structure and surface acid-base properties of sulfated zirconia, alumina and alumina-zirconia applied in isobutylene alkylation were characterized using a variety of physico-chemical methods. Catalytic activity was related to catalyst physico-chemical properties. [GRAPHICS] .
