Concentration of Polytetrafluoroethylene Dispersion Using Cloud Point Phenomena of Aqueous Nonionic Surfactant Solution
In order to develop the concentration process of polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) dispersion by the cloud point(CP) of nonionic surfactant aqueous solution, the effects of surfactant and additive on the CP were investigated using 25 wt% PTFE dispersion. It was shown that the CP increases with an increase in nonionic surfactant amount after reaching minimum at low concentration. The higher value of CP was observed as the number of ether group(n) of the nonionic surfactant increase. In view of high PTFE solid contents in aqueous solution through fast concentration, OPE8 was the best among the surfactants used during this study. From these results, the optimum temperature, surfactant addition, and pH for the concentration of PTFE dispersion were determined to be at 60 ℃, 2.55-3 wt%, and neutral pH, respectively.
