This article chronologically describes the growth of the branch of science which concerns the properties, quality, and efficient use of fuels and lubricants (FL) in aeronautical and specialized engineering. It examines the development, testing, standardization, and launching of new fuels, oils, and lubricants for aeronautical engineering and the development of the methodology used for research on fuels and oils.
