Zeolite-Containing Oxidase-Based Carbon-Paste Biosensors
The incorporation of zeolite particles within glucose oxidase containing carbon paste leads to improved amperometric biosensing of glucose. Such zeolite dispersion offers enhanced sensitivity, extended linear range and higher stability. Such improvements are attributed to the formation of a porous paste network that exposes the enzyme contained in the interior of the paste to the substrate solution and imparts higher mass transport resistance. Several electrode configurations shed useful insights into the diffusion processes within the compact zeolite-carbon paste-enzyme microstructure and the thickness of the active enzyme layer. The mass-transport induced increases in K-m are attributed to diffusional limitations within the electrode interior.
