The Role of Intermediates in Solution in the Initial-Stages of Electrodeposition of Polypyrrole
The electrodeposition of polypyrrole from aqueous solution has been studied using vitreous carbon rotating disc electrodes. It is shown that soluble intermediates of pyrrole oxidation participate in the formation of the polymer and that nucleation and growth phenomena are not necessarily involved in the initial stages of polypyrrole deposition. It is also shown that, in contrast with polypyrrole formation, film growth occurs by direct attachment of monomers, without participation of intermediates in solution.
