Synthesis and Thermal Analysis of Mullite Whiskers in Al(OH) 3 -SiO 2 -AIF 3 System

The thermal analysis of [Math Processing Error] system was done. The thermal behaviors of components and the effect of moisture on the formation of mullite were investigated via TG-DTA and XRD analysis. The mixture of [Math Processing Error] showed two endothermic peaks with drastic weight loss and one exothermic peak. Fluorotopaz was formed at [Math Processing Error] and turned into mullite completely at [Math Processing Error] . But the mixture [Math Processing Error] of or dehydrated [Math Processing Error] and [Math Processing Error] could not form mullite even at [Math Processing Error] in which the crystalline phases were [Math Processing Error] ana cristobalite. It was found that the synthesized mullite was aciculate shaped single crystalline whisker.
