Effective synthesis of wholly aromatic polyketones using 2,2'-diaryloxybiphenyl and arenedicarboxylic acid derivatives via Friedel-Crafts type acylation polymerization
Treatment of 2,2'-bis(aroylphenoxy)biphenyls with arenedicarbonyl chloride in the presence of AlCl3 afforded the corresponding wholly aromatic polyketones. Among three acyl-acceptant monomers screened, 2,2'-bis(4-benzoyl-phenoxy)biphenyl (2a) is the most efficient acyl-acceptant monomer for the synthesis of wholly aromatic polyketones. The polyketones derived from acyl-acceptant monomer 2a show excellent solubility to organic solvents and sufficient heat-resistibility. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
