Effect of additives on strength characteristics of a biodegradable starch film
Thermoplastic films were produced from mixts. of potato starch, glycerol and poly(vinyl alc.) or keratin by extrusion with blowing. The film samples were studied for elastic modulus, crit. stress and crit. strain at varying deformation velocity and sample loading direction. The films modified by addn. of poly(vinyl alc.) and keratin showed increased values of elastic modulus and crit. stress. The increase of sample deformation velocity during the test resulted in an increase in elastic modulus and crit. stress values while the values of crit. strain remained on a similar level. The samples expanded in perpendicular direction to sleeve axis of the blown film showed increased mean values of elastic modulus and crit. stress.
