Preparation and Properties of Dicyanovinyl-and Arylate-Containing Polyazomethines
Polyazomethines containing dicyanovinyl and arylate moieties have been prepared by copolycondensation reaction of p-bis[1-(4-formylphenoxy)-2,2-dicyanovinyl]benzene(2) and p-formylphenyl terephthalate (3) with 4,4′-oxydianiline (ODA). The copolymers with different amount of 2 and 3 were prepared by changing the ratio of two monomers. Two model azomethine compounds were prepared for the condition of the polymer formation and the characterization of polymers. The resulting polyazomethines were partially soluble in polar aprotic solvents such as NMP, DMF and DMSO and insoluble in chloroform and acetone. The solubility was improved with the increase of 2 units in the polymer backbone in NMP. The polymers underwent a curing reaction around at their exotherms to give completely insolugle material and show 73∼83% of residual weight at 500℃ and 55∼75% at 600℃.
