Optimising comfort during wool and blended fabrics design
The major purpose of fabrics and garments is to cover the human body, in order to give him protection, appearance and comfort. The maintenance of local conditions near the body by fabrics, keeping pleasant temperature and moisture levels, is an important factor of comfort. When optimising garments comfort, the fabric technology becomes of fundamental importance. For this reason, we consider that the technological component of wool and blended fabrics design plays a major role in this work. The studied fabric properties are the thermal behaviour, the air and water vapour permeabilities and drape. This study comprises correlations among the above fabric properties and the search of fabric structural characteristics that negatively affect comfort. Thus, by a proper manipulation of these characteristics, the fabric design will be optimised.
