Study of scale growth on steel substrates using Electron Back Scatter Diffraction
Heating of steels causes oxide layers for form on the surface of the metal. These scales have complex microstructures made up of a number of layers the composition and structure of which depend on a large number of variables e.g. temperature, time, atmosphere and alloying elements. The current study has used Electron Back Scatter Diffraction to study these complex microstructures with a view to increasing the understanding of their formation and mechanical properties during processing of steel components.
