Preparation and mechanical properties of nanocrystalline bulk materials by spark plasma sintering process
Spark plasma sintering (SPS) method is a novel process developed for the production of nanostructured bulk metals and alloys. In fact, the SPS process could produce some nanostructured bulk plates from crystalline nanostructured pure iron, titanium and hydroxyapatite powders and amorphous nanostructured Fe76Si11B11C2 powders. Especially, the crystal grain sizes were 23 to 30 nanometers and the tensile strengths were 975 to 1433 MPa in the SPSed pure iron plates. It was confirmed that the present spark plasma sintering process could produce crystalline nanostructured bulk irons and amorphous or crystalline structured Fe76Si11B11C2 bulk alloys.
