The effect of Li, Ce and Ni additions on the microstructure and the mechanical properties in the AlFe intermetallic system.
Microstructural and mechanical properties of the Fe3Al intermetallic compound with additions of Li, Ni, Ce and combinations of (Ce,Li), (CeNi) were obtained. These alloys were produced by a normal casting methods using SiC crucibles. Compression test were carried out and some insights on the alloys mechanical properties are withdrawn. The main effect of these elements on the Fe3Al alloy is related with the improvements of compressive ductility. Also, in this investigation systematic changes in the microstructure and mechanical behavior with the presence of Fe3AlC phase content have been observed.
