Thermal and microstructural characterization of NiTi thin strips produced by twin-roll casting
Rapid solidification method represents a major success because, on the one hand, it is possible to reduce embrittlement by rapid cooling during casting and, on the other hand, to obtain finite or semi-finite products in the shape of ribbons, thin strips, fibres or wires directly from the melt. We have applied the Twin Roll Casting method to prepare thin strips (300-400 mum thick) or commercial equiatomic Ni-Ti alloy. We report here some results on the effect of the melt temperature on the final microstructure of the strips and the thermal characteristics.
