Small-angle neutron scattering study of potassium-doped tungsten wire samples
2D SANS measurements on K doped tungsten samples after uniaxial thermomechanical working (swaging and wire drawing) showed strong anisotropy in the cold worked samples due to the elongated K containing bubbles in the direction of working. The anisotropy vanished completely only after annealing at T=2650 K. In order to reach lower Q range, both as received and annealed tungsten wire samples were measured at HMI on the V12a double-crystal diffiractometer. In vertical sample position with wire axes perpendicular to the horizontal scattering plane, broadening due to the scattering on the macroscopic surface of wires was superimposed suppressing the microscopic effect. On the contrary, in horizontal position the scattering curves displayed no difference and coincided with the resolution curve of the instrument. The measurement was repeated at IFF, Julich on the DKD high resolution diffractometer and revealed the presence of a small portion of extremely large residual pores characterized by radius of gyration R-g = 1590 +/- 20 nm.
