Thermal oxidation of a soft magnetic alloy Co-10Fe-5Cu
The oxidation kinetics of the electrodeposited Co-10Fe-5Cu (wt.%) magnetic alloy was followed in dry oxygen at pressures ranging from 0.1 to I bar for temperatures between 337 and 401 degreesC. The rate law is linear, with a marked pressure influence, resulting from a rate-limiting process at the external interface. Whatever the temperature studied, the material develops a thin oxidation scale (maximum 300 rim) mainly consisting Of Co3O4. Rate extrapolations using Arrhenius' law allow to predict chemical ageing characteristics of the magnetic material.
