Medium range order and microstructure of Al-1% Fe alloy
The structure of liquid Al-1 wt% Fe alloy was studied by using a high temperature X-ray diffractometer. It is found that there is a medium range order structure in the Al-l wt% Fe alloy melt in which the X-ray diffraction experiments were preformed at 700 degrees C. An iron intermetallics Al13Fe4 was found in the alloy, in a flake form solidified from the melt at 700 degrees C, and in a dendritic form solidified from the melt superheated to 1400 degrees C.
