Dissolution Enthalpies of 3D Transition-Metals in Liquid Aluminum
Dissolution enthalpies of pure Sets), Cr(s), Fe(s), Co(s), and Ni(s) in Al(1) at the temperature 1073 K and in the mole-fraction range of dissolved element up to 10(-2) were measured with the help of an isoperibol solution calorimeter of Calvet-type. The molar dissolution enthalpies of Sc and Co as functions of mole fraction of the dissolved element were approximated with linear equations. For the other elements the molar dissolution enthalpies did not depend on mole fraction. Partial molar dissolution enthalpies of 3d transition metals at infinite dilution were calculated. The experimental results were compared with literature results and with values derived from Miedema et al’s(1) model. Some irregularities of the dependence of the partial molar dissolution enthalpies of 3d transition metal in liquid aluminium at infinite dilution against the atomic number of the element in the Periodic Table were revealed.
