Preparation of Polyenaryloxynitriles by Solution Polymerization Techniques and Their Thermal Properties
Various polyenaryloxynitriles were prepared by reacting p-bis-(1-chloro-2,2-dicyanovinyl)benzene(1) with aromatic diphenol derivatives. The inherent viscosities of polymers were in the range of 0.42-0.59 dL/g. The polyenaryloxynitriles are easily soluble in polar aprotic solvents such as N,N-dimethylformamide, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone and dimethyl sulfoxide. The polymers obtained from diphenols with alkyl and acetal units were completely soluble in common organic solvents such as THF. The polymers undergo a curing reaction around 350℃ to form crosslinked insoluble materials. They show a large exotherm in DSC and exhibit a 10% weight loss between 360∼500℃ in nitrogen and 65∼90% residual weight at 500℃.
