Relationship Between Strain Energy Release Rate in Mode I Fracture and Adhesive Tensile Strength for Adhesives Having Different Molecular Structure
Copolymer of styrene-styrene containing pendant dithiocarbamate groups was prepared by a rather convenient synthetic method and the obtained copolymer was blended with poly-ole-fins such as polypropylene (PP), high density polyethylene (HDPE) and low density polyethylene (LDPE). Solvent extraction of the obtained blends showed that the dithiocarbamate group in the copolymer caused the formation of graft copolymer of polyolefin & polystyrene during melt blending. But no formation of graft copolymer was observed for blend samples which do not have any added copolymer. By the addition of the copolymer, better compatibilization of PS/polyolefin phases was observed and mechanical properties of blends were improved.
