Polymerization of Acetylene Derivatives by Tungsten and Molybdenum Chloride-Ethylaluminum Dichloride Catalyst Systems
The cocatalytic effect of organo-aluminum compounds (Et3Al, Et2AlCl, EtAlCl2) for the polymerization of acetylene derivatives was studied. In most cases, EtAlCl2 was found to be a very effective cocatalyst of transition metal chlorides for the metathesis polymerization of acetylene derivatives. It was also found that the molybdeum(V) chloride catalyst was activated by the oxygen atom-containing acetylene monomers. However, the same catalyst systems show no effect for the polymerization of some di-substituted acetylenes, such as 2-butyn-1-ol and 1-(trimethylsilyl)-1-propyne.
