Ultrasonic study of molecular interactions in binary mixtures of methyl acrylate with 1-alkanols (C-4 to C-10) at temperatures from (288.15 to 318.15) K
The ultrasonic speed, u of binary mixtures of methyl acrylate with 1-butanol, 1-hexanol, 1-octanol, and 1decanol, including those of pure liquids, over the entire composition range was measured at temperatures (288.15, 293.15, 298.15, 303.15, 308.15, 313.15, and 318.15) K and at atmospheric pressure. From the experimental results, the isentropic compressibility, kappa(s), intermolecular free length, L-f, acoustic impedance, Z, relative association, R-A, molecular association M-A, deviations in isentropic compressibility, Delta kappa(s), excess intermolecular free length, L-f(E), deviations in ultrasonic speed, Delta u, excess molar isentropic compressibility, K-s,m(E), excess acoustic impedance, Z(E) have been calculated. The partial molar isentropic compressibility, (K) over bar (s,m,1) and (K) over bar (s,m,2), and excess partial molar isentropic compressibility, (K) over bar (E)(s,m,1) and (K) over bar (E)(s,m,2) over the whole composition range, partial molar isentropic compressibility, (K) over bar (s,m,1)degrees and (K) over bar (s,m,2)degrees and excess partial molar isentropic compressibility, (K) over bar (s,m,1)degrees(E) and (K) over bar (s,m,2)degrees(E) of the components at infinite dilution have also been calculated. The variations of these derived parameters indicate the presence of specific interactions between methyl acrylate and 1-alkanol molecules, which follows the order: 1-butanol > 1-hexanol > 1-octanol > 1-decanol. The values of excess parameters are found dependent on the length of alkyl chain of 1-alkanol molecules. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
