Crystallization and Melting Behavior of Poly(butylene terephthalate)(PBT)/Poly(hydroxy ether of bisphenol A) (Phenoxy) Blends
The crystallization and melting behavior of the blends of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT)/poly(hydroxy ether of bisphenol A)(Phenoxy) are investigated by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The isothermal crystallization kinetics of blends is analyzed by the Avrami equation. For a given degree of supercooling ΔT, the overall crystallization rate of PBT in the blends increases with increasing Phenoxy content up to 20wt%, and then decreases with futher increasing Phenoxy content. This is explained by competition between the surface free energy σ, and the molecular diffusion. From the melting point depression, the interaction energy density B is determined from the Nishi-Wang equation, and the obtained value is -2.8 cal/㎤.
