Magnetostrictive/piezoelectric drum magnetoelectric transducer for H-2 detection
A magnetostrictive/piezoelectric drum magnetoelectric transducer has been fabricated for H-2 detection. Due to the difference in the acoustic wave velocity for H-2 (1284 m/s) and air (331 m/s), the resonance frequency of the magnetoelectric coupling effect will shift when H-2 gas enters the drum cavity filled with air. A good linear relationship between the resonance frequency shift (Delta f) and the volume fraction of H-2 (n%) is observed. The resolution on the H-2 volume fraction of our magnetoelectric drum detector was experimentally observed as similar to 0.25%. The detection coefficient (Delta f/n) for H-2 volume fraction of our ME drum transducer is approximately equal to similar to 0.48 kHz. The magnetoelectric drum is hopeful for H-2 physical detection.
