New Measurements of Appearance Potentials and Optical-Absorption of Na2F and Na3O
Oxides and fluorides of sodium clusters were produced by reacting a beam of metal clusters with N2O or SF6 in the region between nozzle and skimmer. The threshold for single photon ionization was measured by using a pulsed, frequency doubled visible dye laser or a UV dye laser and detecting ions with a quadrupole mass spectrometer. Resonant two-photon ionization was employed to record optical spectra. Comparisons with previous measurements arid theoretical predictions are discussed.
