Fuel and Ethylene Measurements during n-dodecane, methylcyclohexane, and iso-cetane pyrolysis in shock tubes
Fuel and ethylene time histories, overall fuel decomposition rates, and ethylene yields were measured during the high-temperature (990-1520 K) pyrolysis of n-dodecane, methylcyclohexane, and 2,2,4,4,6,8,8-heptamethylnonane in a heated high-pressure shock tube. Fuel measurements were made using IR HeNe laser absorption at 3.39 mu m and ethylene measurements were made using CO2 gas laser absorption near 10.5 mu m. Initial fuel mole fractions ranged from 0.1% to 0.4% fuel in argon and pressures from 17 to 23 atm. Data provided here will enable the formulation of a fuel surrogate with pyrolytic kinetic properties (product species and overall fuel decomposition rates) similar to RP-fuels. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd.
