Test of the Equation of State of Water Up to Freezing at 100 and 200-Degrees-C
The sound velocity in water at 100 and 200 degrees C has been determined up to the freezing pressure using Brillouin scattering. In this temperature and pressure range there is little experimental data on any physical property of water. Our results, therefore, provide a convenient test of existing equations of state. We find our results to be in good agreement with those calculated from the most reliable equation of state.
