Non-sterilized fermentative co-production of poly(gamma-glutamic acid) and fibrinolytic enzyme by a thermophilic Bacillus subtilis GXA-28
Poly(gamma-glutamic acid), as a naturally occurring homopolymer, is widely used in industry, agriculture, food and medicine. Fibrinolytic enzyme has a great potential for the prevention and/or treatment of vascular diseases caused by fibrin clots. Co-production of gamma-PGA and fibrinolytic enzyme by Bacillus subtilis GXA-28 (CCTCC M 2012347) from soybean residue using cane molasses and monosodium glutamate waste liquor under sterilized and non-sterilized condition were investigated. It was observed that total sugar from cane molasses of 3% (w/w) and glutamate from monosodium glutamate waste liquor of 2% (w/w) were favorable for gamma-PGA and fibrinolytic enzyme co-production at pH 7.0 and 45 degrees C. Based on the optimal medium, the gamma-PGA and fibrinolytic activity reached 103.5 g/kg-substrates at 22 h and 986 U/g-substrates at 24 h under non-sterilized condition, respectively.
