Spectrophotometric Investigation of Chitosan Structure in Aqueous Solution
For the study of structural change of chitosan which is dissolved in aqueous solution, UV spectra and CD spectra were used. The interaction between chitosan and iodine observed in UV spectra shows that new interaction peak at 246nm increases as the pH decreases, which is also observed as NaCl concentration increases. But there is no observable peak at 246nm when the concentration of urea is varied. CD spectra of chitosan solution reveals the strong positive Cotton effect at 197nm, and strong negative Cotton effects at 208nm, 222nm. As the concentration of NaCl increases, the intensity of these peaks decreases.
