Actuation characteristics of all-organic polymer actuator with conducting polymer electrode
E-mail:
A conducting polymer was used to replace the metal electrode of ionic-polymer metal composite (IPMC) to remedy the problems of the metal electrode, which were high cost, long fabrication time, and failure during the long-term actuation. Polyaniline (PANi) of high conductivity was attached on a bare or plasma-etched Nafion membrane to comprise all-organic polymer actuators. The actuation displacement of as high as 2.3 mm was measured under 3.0 V. As the displacement appeared rather low compared to that of typical Nafion IPMC with the Pt electrode, the reason for the low deformation was examined in terms of the actuation characteristics of the prepared actuators.
