Properties of the mixtures of 2,4-dinitrotoluene with cellulose nitrates
Mixts. about 1:1 of 2,4-dinitrotoluene (2,4-DNT) with cellulose nitrates (esterification degrees 13,23% and 13,51%) were prepd. under varying mixing intensity (in distd. water and by rubbing in mortar) and then were studied for mixing enthalpy, internal pressure and the temp. peak shift on the differential scanning calorimetry curve. The mixing enthalpy did depend neither on component mixing intensity nor on cellulose nitrate esterification degree. The distinct endo-thermic effect occurring just before the exothermic effect of disintegration at temps. close to the temp. of vitrification of cellulose nitrate was attributed to the alpha relaxation.
