Alendronate functionalized mesoporous hydroxyapatite nanoparticles for drug delivery
Mesoporous nanosized hydroxyapatite (HAP) functionalized by alendronate (ALN) was synthesized using cationic surfactant CTAB as template. The structural, morphological and textural properties were fully characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and N-2 adsorption/desorption. Then the obtained materials were performed as drug delivery carriers using ibuprofen (IBU) as a model drug to investigate their drug storage/release properties in simulated body fluid (SBF). The materials showed relatively slower release rate compared with HAP due to the ionic interaction between -NH3+ on the matrix and -COO(-)belongs to IBU. The system provides a new concept for improving the drug loading or slowing down the release rate. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
