Wettability studies of coalescence media using capillary rise method
Five corm polymer fibre filter media used for sepn. of biphasic liq.-liq. systems were studied for wettability with water and gas oil by the capillary rise test. The wetting kinetics and crit. surface tensions were detd. The surface characteristics of fibers was crit. for achieving high efficiency of the coalescence and subsequent sepn. course. For some filter media, lipophilic-hydrophilic ratio was also found. Applicability of the capillary rise as a reliable and robust method for characterization of fibrous bed wettability was proved.
