Limitation of nitrous oxide emission from nitric acid plants
NH3 was oxidized at 760-840 degrees C over a 2-stage catalyst system consisting of Pt-Rh gauze, followed by a catalyst composed of Ce and Co oxides. Use of the catalyst system resulted in a higher conversion to NO than on the Pt-Rh gauzes alone and a tenfold lower NH3 losses due to N2O formation.
