Electrochemical behavior of carbon gel/expanded graphite electrodes
C gels produced by sol-gel polycondensation of resorcinol with CH2O in aq. soln. in presence of Na2CO3, Me(CH2)(9)NMe3Br and, optionally, expanded graphite at 50 degrees C for 96 h were carbonized at 1000 degrees C for 3 h, grinded and used for prepn. C electrodes, studied then by cyclic voltammetry for electrochem. activity in aq. 6 M KOH. The addn. of expanded graphite resulted in a significant (30-40%) improvement of the electrode capacitance. The highest increase in the capacitance was achieved when 1% by mass of expanded graphite was added to the C gels.
